Thermokinetic diagrams of recrystallization of austenite during hot rolling of special steels

Metal Science and Heat Treatment Aims and scope

Results of studies of the kinetics of recrystallization of hot-strained austenite by experimental simulation of an elementary act of commercial multipass rolling, i.e., deformation followed by a pause, are presented. Thermokinetic diagrams of recrystallization are plotted for various groups of alloy special steels (bearing, tool, corrosion-resistant, high-temperature, high-strength structural ones) for the case of rolling in the temperature range of 800–1200°C. Examples of the use of the results obtained for controlling the structure of austenite during rolling (primarily grain refinement) and the products of its transformation during cooling are presented. The results are also used for developing power-saving processes of combined deformation-and-heat treatment.
