Abstract

The electronic structures and magnetic properties of transition metal (Mn, Fe, Co)-doped ZnO under the in-plane biaxial strains are investigated systematically by the first-principles calculations. It is found that the augmented in-plane biaxial strains can mediate the Fe-doped ZnO ferromagnetism effectively, but have less influence on Mn- and Co-doped systems. Therefore, the strain may be an effective means in inducing ferromagnetism in ZnO:Fe system.
