Abstract

A study was made of the structural and magnetic properties of the Fe2Nb alloy using X-ray diffraction, Mössbauer spectrometry at different temperatures, and ac susceptibility techniques. The alloy was obtained after 30 hours of milling in a high energy planetary mill and subsequently sintered at 700 K for 72 hours. The alloy is paramagnetic and presents the bcc-Fe and hcp-Fe2Nb structural phases, with a mean crystallite size of 75 and 91 nm, respectively. From the magnetic measurements, it was found that the Fe2Nb hexagonal structure exhibits: reentrant spin-glass behavior with a freezing temperature of 67 K, ferromagnetic and paramagnetic phases which coexist between 67 and 265 K, and paramagnetic behavior above 265 K.
