A new threefold nuclear stage has been developed and successfully tested. The nuclear stage consists of concentrically arranged cylinders of high-purity copper and platinum. This concentric structure permits a more effective utilization of the magnetic field within the upper range of the superconducting magnet system. The temperature achieved at the outer nuclear stage with an end field of 20 mT amounts to 23 μK.
