Abstract

The diagnosis of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) has become more critical with the recognition that early and ongoing treatment is essential. Furthermore, differentiating severity of symptoms within and across types of ASD in children is a high priority. Two hundred and thirty-five children between the ages of 3–16 years, who were either typically developing or met criteria for an ASD of autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, or PDD-NOS were evaluated on the four factors of the Autism Spectrum Disorders—Diagnostic for Children (ASD-DC). Marked differences on factors and specific items of ASD were noted across groups. Implications of these data for clinical practice are discussed.
