Abstract

Cation-templated self-assembly of 1,3-bis(4-methylpyridine)alkane cation with AgBr or AgI was studied and two new complexes were obtained: {(bmpp)[Ag2Br4]}n (1) and {(bmpp)[Ag4I6]}n (2) [bmpp = 1,3-bis(4-methylpyridine)alkane cation]. Compounds 12 were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, TG, and X-ray crystallography. The two compounds have 1D chain structure. Furthermore, photocatalytic properties at ambient temperature were also investigated.

Graphical Abstract

We report two new extend supramolecular polymers based on Ag(I) and 1,3-bis(4-methylpyridine)alkane cation. Compounds 1–2 have 1D chain structures. Furthermore, photocatalytic properties at ambient temperature were also investigated.
