Abstract

In this work, we have successfully prepared lutetium doped copper ferrite nanoparticles through green approach by utilizing of copper nitrate, iron nitrate, lutetium nitrate and starch in an aqueous solution. Starch plays role as capping agent, reductant agent, and natural template in the synthesis CuFe2−xLuxO4 nanoparticles. The as-prepared CuFe2−xLuxO4 nanoparticles were characterized extensively by techniques like XRD, SEM, UV–Vis, and EDX. The magnetic properties of as-prepared CuFe2−xLuxO4 nanoparticles were also investigated with vibrating sample magnetometer. In addition, methyl orange was chosen as a dye water pollution to evaluate its degradation by as-synthesize CuFe2−xLuxO4 under ultraviolet light irradiation. The photocatalysis results reveal that the decolorization of 65 % for methyl orange occurred with CuFe2−xLuxO4 nanostructures in 70 min under ultraviolet light irradiation.
