Abstract

Biomass carbon doped Bi2WO6 crystallite with a three-dimensional hierarchical structure was prepared with a facile and efficient process under microwave hydrothermal-calcination conditions. The as-prepared samples were characterized and investigated for phase compositions, morphology and photo-catalytic activity. Results show that the highest photo-catalytic activity of the C-Bi2WO6 for the degradation of RhB is 92.3 % within 240 min under visible light, which is considerably higher than that of pure Bi2WO6. The improved photo-catalytic performance could be attributed to the enhanced carrier transportation and photo-generated electron–hole separation. Our studies indicate that the synergetic effect between C and Bi2WO6 is beneficial to its photo-catalytic activity.
