Technical Conditions of the Stator Columns of the Hydraulic Turbines at the Borisoglebsk HPP After a Prolonged Period of Operation

  • Published:
Power Technology and Engineering Aims and scope

Factors determining fatigue failure of the weldment between the stator column and upper stator ring after 50 years of service of the generating set are investigated. Residual stresses in the zone of the weldment are measured, the natural vibration frequencies of the columns determined, and the static and dynamic stresses in the columns measured in various operating regimes. It is concluded that the basic cause of weldment failure was an original production defect.
