Comparative Evaluation of the Fibrous Composite Material Microstructure Using Digital Technologies

  • Published:
Fibre Chemistry Aims and scope

The paper presents the results of the electron microscopic microstructural study of a laboratory sample of a fibrous composite material. The resulting cross-sectional cut image of the sample was processed using software programs working with vector and raster file formats. The fiber cross-sectional cut areas, obtained in a vector graphical program, were compared with the areas calculated at various stages of the image preparation for evaluating the fiber cross-sectional cut area in a raster format. As a result, black-and-white shade adjustment modes, ensuring rapid and high-accuracy graphic processing of the fibrous material microstructure, were selected. The error of calculating the fiber cross-sectional cut area was in the limits of 1%, while the processing time reduced by tens of hours depending on the number of measured objects.
