Properties of High-Strength Aramid Fiber Textile Materials for Protective Clothing

  • Published:
Fibre Chemistry Aims and scope

An analysis of the aramid fiber market including the range of industrial textile materials containing chemical fibers for specialized protective clothing of metallurgical workers, welders, and firefighters is presented. A method for obtaining and utilizing para- (Rusar, Armos) and meta-aramid (Arselon) fibers is described. Test samples of nanostructured textile materials were prepared using a unique semi-industrial plasma unit. During the study, the material was nanostructured using selected plasma unit modes in order to enhance the complex of textile material properties. The strength and elongation at break were established as the most important indicators determining the mechanical properties of fabrics for specialized protective clothing. The results of testing the protective properties of textile materials are presented.
