Reliability and service life of VGKK series sealed lead-throughs for nuclear power plants

Atomic Energy Aims and scope

Abstract

Evaluation tests of sealed cable lead-throughs for nuclear power plants are examined. It is shown that the currently existing systematic testing for the effect of all factors arising in a large-leak regime does not give a real picture of the resistance of sealed cable lead-throughs. Data on the admissible absorbed dose which are obtained only on the basis of tests for radiation resistance can be erroneous when extended to operating conditions where environmental factors act simultaneously. A testing chamber and a method for performing measurements under conditions simulating a regime with a large leak are described.
