Abstract

We are developing a Schottky photodiode with high sensitivity, using a surface plasmon filter. We have developed the surface plasmon filter with gold nanoparticles annealed on a glass substrate. The results of our experiments show that the magnitude of the surface plasmon resonance depends on the shape, size, and density of the gold nanoparticles. We have added the surface plasmon filter to a Schottky photodiode and then irradiated it with an LED light with the center wavelength of 525 nm, to find that the photocurrent increased by 21.0%. On the other hand, in the case of irradiating it with LED lights with the other center wavelength, the photocurrent did not increase. In addition, when the surface plasmon filter was floated on the surface of the photodiode, the photocurrent did not increase. From this result, we were able to demonstrate that the use of the surface plasmon filter helps improve the sensitizing effect of the photodiode by surface plasmon resonance.
