Summary.
Through an energy analysis of the cleavage cracking in a constant-K sample, the analytical solution of the dynamic fracture resistance for a brittle, homogeneous material is obtained. The dependence of the crack behavior on the accumulated continuum dissipation associated with the dynamic effect is analyzed. The relationship between the critical energy release rate of crack arrest and the applied stress intensity factor is discussed in detail.
