Abstract
At the moment the top gas from blast furnaces is commonly cleaned by wet gas cleaning technology which consists of a gravity separator for coarse dedusting and a scrubber for fine dedusting. Dry type top gas cleaning, consisting of a gravity separator and a bag filter, shows a number of technical and economic benefits compared to the wet technology. An example is the approximately 30 % higher energy output at the top gas recovery turbine due to the lower temperature and pressure loss of the dry gas cleaning technology. In this paper both technologies are compared with each other, and the respective advantages and disadvantages are discussed.
