Abstract
Changes in society as a whole have led to new possibilities, but also to many burdens and uncertainties in young adults and they are increasingly being referred to psychoanalytic treatment. Psychoanalysis has not dealt with this age group very often and has often understood it from adolescence aspects; however, research shows many peculiarities of this age group, which also have an impact on the treatment technique. Based on a case study, issues of maintaining the framework under conditions of instability, working on narcissistic components, the importance of abstinence and the balance of support and confrontation are discussed. The challenges also include dealing with rescue fantasies and different interventions in identity crises, identity diffusion or identity conflict. Specific forms of defence, resistance from the autonomy debt and high diversity must also be considered in this age group.
