Abstract
The results of a study on over 3000 young adults aged 20-30 years demonstrated that students are significantly different in many aspects from same-aged young adults already working, in apprenticeship or unemployed. Their identity development is delayed and due to their low developmental status, they experience high developmental pressure and high symptomatology. Typical characteristics of emerging adulthood (such as feeling in-between, strong self-focus and instability in work partnership and living conditions) particularly apply to them. Consequences for counseling and therapy are discussed.
