Study on Z-scan characteristics of cascaded nonlinear media

Abstract

An analytic solution and a numerical simulation are provided to analyze Z-scan curves of cascaded nonlinear medium layers or a complicated cascaded structure. The analytic method is based on the Gaussian decomposition method (GDM) and ‘distributed-lens’ method, and the numerical simulation uses Crank–Nicholson finite difference scheme. A comparison between them is made, which shows that they have a good agreement both with each other and the experiment data. It will be useful to design optical limiters and determine the nonlinearities of cascaded medium layers.
