Abstract

Hemangiomas are common lesions, best known for their appearance in the liver. Their appearance in less common locations, such as the gastrointestinal and genitourinary tracts, is less well known. We will review the typical and atypical appearance of hemangiomas in these locations on sonography, CT, and MRI.

ESM 1 29-year-old woman with blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome with multiple abdominal hemangiomas (same patient as Fig. 7). Video rendering of abdominal MR angiography shows progressive enhancement of multiple hepatic hemangiomas, a large mesenteric hemangioma and a colorectal hemangioma. Also visible is an obstructed right kidney, with marked hydronephrosis and severe parenchymal thinning. Supplementary material 1 (MP4 978 kb)

ESM 2 45-year-old man with esophageal hemangioma (same patient as Fig. 8). Endoscopic Doppler sonogram shows a hypoechoic lesion in the submucosa that contains serpiginous flowing vascular structures. Multiple small echogenic foci that cause comet-tail artifacts are also seen and are consistent with calcifications. Supplementary material 2 (MP4 651 kb)
