Abstract

The paper presents an evaluation procedure of the insulation performances of the stator coil of a 18 MW vertical synchronous hydro-generator by monitoring the level of partial discharge (PD). The evaluation was achieved after a 5 years’ period of operation with the purpose of establishing the maintenance works which are imposed having in view to bring the hydro-generator back to its initial performance parameters. By this method we create the possibility of highlighting some eventual degradations of the isolation, a fact which can contribute to the decrease of the service time, having negative repercussions on the safety during operation.
