Abstract

Hemangiomas are the most common tumor in childhood (frequency up to 10%). They show a characteristic natural history of rapid proliferation and slow spontaneous involution. Only minor skin changes remain after regression in the vast majority of cases. Thus, treatment seems inappropriate in most patients. However, in rare instances, hemangiomas can be function or life threatening. Hemangiomas, which do not show improvement after surgery, cryotherapy, or laser therapy, require treatment with either corticosteroids or interferon.
