Pyrometallurgical treatment of ilmenite and zircon concentrates to obtain ceramic materials

  • Published:
Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Abstract

Various pyrometallurgical methods for treating ilmenite and zircon concentrates are reviewed. Laboratory experiments using a thermal plasma reactor were performed to evaluate the conversions of ilmenite to TiC or TiC-Fe and zircon to ZrC or ZrC-SiC. Results are examined and possible processing routes are identified.
