Effects of Temperature on the Deformation of Beta Brass

  • Published:
JOM Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Abstract

Measurements of impact hardness of β-brass are reported for a wide range of temperatures. Abrupt softening is observed when temperatures are raised above 425°C, accompanied by abrupt widening of deformation bands in the deformed samples. Current theories of these effects, and of the lack of twinning, are discussed.
