Abstract
By sparking samples in an inert atmosphere and analyzing spectra in a vacuum, it is possible to analyze iron and steel for C, P, and S, in addition to those elements determined in older units. Application of basic spectroscopy principles are reviewed, and the Quantovac, a vacuum spectrograph which gives rapid analysis for all important elements, is described.
