Abstract

The effects of the use of high-purity oxygen on the chemical and thermal limitations of the open-hearth process are reviewed. Particular emphasis is placed on those factors that directly affect the control and/or the economics of the operation. Specific examples concerned with control of the process have been developed and are discussed in some detail.
