Dennis E. G. Maschmeyer, P Eng, graduated in chemical engineering from the University of Alberta in 1961. He joined Sherritt at the nickel refinery in Fort Saskatchewan where he has been involved in various phases of the hydrometallurgical field, including engineering, production, maintenance and management. A large portion of these years has been involved in project development, primarily in the areas of nickel and copper. He has recently returned from two years in southeast Asia, where he was involved in the start-up and operation of a nickel refinery as manager of maintenance engineering. Currently, he is Manager, Projects and Pilot Operations, in the Metal and Chemical Division.
Paul Kawulka was the Sherritt co-manager of the S-C Copper Project, and was responsible for the overall organization and administration. After graduation in 1947 from the University of Saskatchewan with a BSc in chemical engineering, he worked for the R&D Department of Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company Ltd. He joined Sherritt in 1960, and has worked on various development projects presently having the position of Head, Environment.
E. F. Milner graduated with a BSc in physics from the University of London in 1949. He was employed from 1950 to 1957 by the National Smelting Company at Avonmouth in fuels technology and zinc pyrometallurgy development. In 1957, he joined Cominco Ltd. and has worked in pyrometallurgical research and process evaluation and economics. He is at present Senior Research Metallurgist in the Technical Research Centre at Trail, B.C.
G. M. Swinkels graduated from the University of Delft in 1961 with an MSc in Mineral Engineering. He worked for International Nickel and Algoma Ore Properties prior to obtaining a PhD at Queen’s University in 1968. He joined Cominco Ltd. the same year and is at present Chief, Mineral Processing Research, at the Technical Research Centre, Trail, B.C. Dr. Swinkels directed most of the Cominco research and development effort in the S-C Copper Project.
