Summary
A modification of a radiation vacuum furnace as described by Alberman has made this furnace suitable for the melting of small amounts of binary alloys. The effective concentration c of the solute can be determined by inserting the measured values of the average temperature coefficient of resistivity between 273°K and 373°K of the alloys (α a) and the basic metal (α m), Linde’s datafor the atomic resistivity increase (δ ρ1) and its temperature coefficient (α 1) in the expression:c = (ρ m/δ ρ1) (α m -α a)/α a -α 1).
