Modified correlation formulae for the heat transfers by natural and by forced convection from horizontal cylinders

Applied Scientific Research, Section A Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

First the heat transfer by natural and by forced convection from horizontal cylinders to fluids is reviewed. Experimental data of various origins are assembled, and modified correlation formulae are derived from them; they have a wider range of applicability than those used hitherto. In the final section a new correlation formula is presented for the heat transfer from cylinders to air by combined natural and forced horizontal convection; it serves for predicting the magnitude of the Reynolds number above which natural convection is negligible.
