A survey on exchange potentials in atoms and solids

  • Published:
Acta Physica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae

Abstract

In this survey on exchange potentials the first principle methods used to define an exchange potential are first described. Then the approximations leading to practicable exchange potentials useful for actual calculations are considered. The different versions of theX α-method are discussed in detail. Finally the quality of the different exchange potentials is illustrated by examples from atomic and solid state physics. The reader may use it as a guide in choosing a special exchange potential in a special property calculation.
