Samenvatting
Soms ben ik patiënt, soms ben ik familie van de patiënt. In beide rollen is mijn vertrouwen in de kwaliteit van de reguliere somatische geneeskunde groot, zo niet oneindig. Op het moment dat ik dit schrijf, realiseer ik mij dat ik die uitspraak direct moet nuanceren. Ik herinner mij ineens diverse momenten van lichte argwaan. Is dat wel de juiste diagnose? Is er geen betere of minder belastende behandeling mogelijk? Is die arts wel bij de les? Ik houd er bij voorkeur mijn mond over. Mijn op dit terrein weinig assertieve houding brengt mij wel eens in conflict met mijn echtgenote, die op het kritieke moment niet schroomt met haar lekenoordeel op gelijke voet met de professional te treden.
