Samenvatting
Visuele stoornissen komen meer voor bij niet-aangeboren hersenletsel (nah) dan men denkt. Meerdere onderzoeken tonen aan dat het percentage visuele stoornissen bij hersenbeschadiging gemiddeld zo'n 30% à 35% bedraagt. Ook het omgekeerde is onderzocht. Onderzoek van Verstraten (2005; 2008) bij Sensis toont aan dat er bij ongeveer 15% van de patiënten die zich aanmelden voor hulpverlening vanwege hun visuele beperking tevens sprake is van nah. Neurodegeneratieve aandoeningen (behorende tot de groep van nah) gaan vaak gepaard met visuele stoornissen (Vandermeulen, 2007).
