Abstract
Het gebruik van e-mail door hulpverleners en patiënten groeit in hoog tempo. Uit een recent Amerikaans onderzoek bleek een derde van de 10.000 ondervraagde artsen e-mailberichten met hun patiënten uit te wisselen. Onderzoekers stelden vast dat een deel van de patiënten minder moeite heeft zich per e-mail te uiten of vragen te stellen over pijnlijke onderwerpen dan in directe contacten1. Het lijkt erop dat e-mail mogelijkheden schept voor degenen die in organisaties en relaties minder de boventoon voeren. Met het gebruik van e-mail komen bovendien andere aspecten van mensen aan bod dan in directe contacten2. Toch vond ik in literatuuronderzoek bij Medline en Psychinfo slechts een paar artikelen over dit onderwerp3. Dit artikel gaat in op mijn ervaringen met het gebruik van e-mail bij therapie (van patiënten met eetstoornissen) en de voor ’ en nadelen daarvan.
