Abstract

Primary acquired Cholesteatoma is preceded by a retraction pocket formation in the Tympanic Membrane (TM). Ratraction in Pars Flaccida occurs due to weakness of the mesodermal elastic Fibres. However, why retraction is so frequent in the PosteroSuperior Quadrant (PSQ) of the TM is not clear. The inherent structural weakness associated with the curvature of the PSQ and its susceptibility to pressure changes are explained by analysing the computer model of a human tympanic membrane.
