Summary

The available litrature on the Emigration of the posterosuperior meatal skin in to the middle ear cleft giving rise to secondary acquired cholesteotoma after an attack of Necrotizing Otitis has been briefly reviewed. It was felt that the peculiar, unique quality of Epidermoid Emigration of the posterosuperior meatal skin against its own so called gradient as established by the Epithelial migration and the apparent absence of such a behaviour in other areas of the external ear was not well understood. To investigate the various anatomical features in different regions of the temporal bone and to interpret the findings, and to offer probable explanation for Epidermoid Emigration, a thorough and systematic study of horizontal serial sections of twenty normal human temporal bone collections were undertaken. An attempt was made to explain this peculiar be baviour of posterosuperior meatal skin, on the basis of the various observations of the Anatomical peculiarities of the temporal bone and the probable factors facilitating or retarding this phenomenon were discussed.
