Summary
To case reports of ASAT laryngoplasty are presented with very satisfactory rehabilitation of speech initially, though one case fatied to maintain his speech subsequently. Further surgery might help this unfortunate patient but he refused it. The phonetic stream is effectively diverted through the dermal tube into the oral cavity to be articulated. Speech of better quality is developed which is not monotonous and easily understandable. Moreover, the associated expiratory snort and the gulping noise that are quite often present in pharyngo-oesophageal speech are conspicuously absent in this laryngoplasty which is responsible, besides the factor already mentioned viz the pseudoglottis, for better intelligibility of speech. The speech in this case is not dead or monotonous but has got a good inflectional pattern.
