Duodenogastroesophageal reflux and reflux disease

  • Published:
Acta Endoscopica

Summary

Duodenogastroesophageal reflux of biliopancreatic secretions majors the deleterious effects of gastroesophageal reflux of acid gastric secretion on esophageal mucosa. Thus, it has been incriminated as an increased risk of esophagitis, Barrett’s esophagus and esophageal adenocarcinoma. Biliary Acids, Trypsin and Lysolecithin are the nocious components of this reflux. It can be evidenced with the help of Bilitec system which identifies Bilirubin as marker.
