Abstract

A study of cell-mediated immunological reactivity was made in 48 patients with upper respiratory tract cancer. Among the in vivo methods, primary reactivity was measured by contact sensitization to DNCB and secondary reactivity by contact sensitization to skin test antigen, PPD. The in vitro assay was the blastogenic response to the mitogen phytohaemagglutinin. In general there was an increased incidence of anergic and impaired reactivity in patients with cancer of upper respiratory tract compared to age-matched controls. A relationship between longevity of survival and the intensity of of delayed hypersensitivity response was also seen.
