Die Ostracoden-Sintflut — ein forschungsbericht

Abstract

Ostracode research gets more and more discouraging, since workers feel the Flood of new data reaching up to their eyes. When, in 1961, the Treatise summed up the available ostracode taxa of nearly two centuries, by starting withCypris O. F. Müller 1776, the informations on ostracodes covered a rather small spectrum compared with the data that are available now. Since then taxa have more than doubled and yet the inventory has not been completed. For some parts of our world the inventory has not even begun. — Regarding other ostracode data as well, such as anatomy of the soft parts, structural and morphological features of the carapace and its variability, ecological, geographical, and stratigraphical distributions, and last not least phylogenetical conclusions, informations have even more than tripled within the last fifteen years. — Admitting that this report on research activities during the last two decades, can not review the total of results in detail and can not even list the total of publications of that period, I at least tried to spotlight the actual literature which may help in tracing previous publications. Thus, the observant reader will find out many sins of omission at first glance which, as a matter of fact, can not even be excused by the limited space made available for this report.
