Epidemiology of carcinoma of the colon and rectum in Ireland: Mortality analysis

  • Published:
Irish Journal of Medical Science Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

PUBLISHED and unpublished data was collected from the Irish Central Statistics Office to elicit the time trends, age, sex, and geographical distribution of mortalities of the large bowel except the rectum and those of the rectum and recto-sigmoid junction separately in the Republic of Ireland. WHO statistical annuals were used to compare mortalities of the large bowel in Ireland with those of other countries. Our study confirms that in 1973, the Republic of Ireland has the highest mortality figures from carcinoma of the large bowel excluding rectum in males and the second highest in females.
