Summary
Twenty-six ununited fractures were treated on an outpatient basis by electromagnetic stimulation using pulsed electromagnetic fields. Union was achieved in twenty-three (88%). The average duration of treatment in successful cases was 21 weeks.
Active infection or a history of previous infection at the fracture site need not prevent union occurring with this method.
