Summary
The method ofstructural inference permits the construction of unique probability density functions for the parameters of a general location-scale distribution; these densities are only conditional on a sample of observations.
In this paper, a logarithmic data transformation maps the two-parameter Weibull model onto a distribution with location-scale structure to which the results of structural inference are applied. In particular, the unique probability densities of the Weibull parameters are deduced, and on their basis the probability density of the reliability function is derived. Prediction densities are developed for an arbitrary vector of future measurements, and for the first and Nth order statistic of a given number of such future observations. This analysis is then modified for progressively censored samples of types I and II. An illustration is provided for some of the results of this paper.
