Abstract

The silica activities of slags in the CaF2−CaO−SiO2 system (NCaO∶NSiO 2>3∶2) have been determined at 1450°C by measuring the equilibrium partial pressure of carbon monoxide for the reaction (SiO2)+3C (s) =SiC (s) +2CO (g) The results have been correlated with phase diagram determinations and are not consistent with other activity measurements in the literature. Lime activities have been determined using the ternary Gibbs-Duhem relationship.
