Abstract
A modified PTC method of preparing tetra-O-alkylated calix[4]arenes is described. Using PEG-400 as phase-transfer catalyst and solid sodium hydrate as a base, full alkylation of calix[4]arenes has been proceeded smoothly in toluene at 90°C. The debutylated calix[4]arene can also be fully alkylated by this method.
