Charge-symmetric driver for heavy-ion fusion

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento A (1965-1970)

Summary

A concept and the main parameters of a driver for heavy-ion fusion (HIF), based on ion beam neutralization have been considered. The advantage of this driver scheme is a considerable increase of the current limit in the beam transport channel and therefore of the specific power deposition into the thermonuclear target. To profit from the neutralization idea more completely, a family of ions with different masses should be used. The optimal choice of the ions is also discussed.
