Summary

The effect of an external magnetic field on the development of photon-initiated showers in dense materials (like absorbers used in electromagnetic calorimeters) is investigated. It is shown that magnetic fields of intensities ∼1 T cause already sizeable modifications to the shower shape, and dramatic effects can appear in the presence of magnetic fields of higher intensities.

Sono studiati gli effetti di un campo magnetico esterno sullo sviluppo di sciami elettromagnetici generati da fotoni in materiali densi (ad esempio quelli usati come assorbitori nei calorimetri elettromagnetici). Le deformazioni indotte nello sciame, che cominciano ad essere apprezzabili per campi di intensità dell’ordine di 1T, diventano molto importanti al crescere dell’intensità di campo.

Исследуеуся влияние внешнего магнитного поля на развитие ливней, инициированных фотонами в плотных веществах (подобных поглотителям, используемым в электромагнитных калориметрах). Показывается, что магнитные поля с напряженностями ∼1 Тл вызывают уже заметные изменения в форме ливней. При более высоких напряженностях магнитных полей могуг возникать существенные зффекты.
