Pion-deuteron elastic scattering and Bakamjian-Thomas transformation theory

Summary

It is shown, using the transformation theory of Bakamjian and Thomas, how to introduce potentials into the pion-deuteron elastic-scattering problem without destroying Poincaré invariance. Thus the usual difficulties of using potentials in relativistic situations are avoided. A direct numerical comparison of the Bakamjian-Thomas center-of-momentum formulation and a similar Breit-frame analysis is made for πd and pd elastic scattering. Quantitative differences are found in the double-scattering amplitudes in the two formulations.
