Summary
The absolute momentum spectrum of muons at a depth of 7.2 kg cm-2 of sandstone rock has been measured in the range 2 to 200 GeV/c. The spectrometer and the method of analysis are described in detail. The production spectrum deduced from our data, making suitable assumptions about momentum loss, agrees well with that obtained from their sea level spectrum by Pineet al., as regards both the absolute rate and shape of the spectrum. The use of Geiger counter trays at five levels enables us to analyse most multiple events.

Si è misurato lo spettro degli impulsi assoluti dei muoni ad una profondità di 7.2 kg cm-2 in arenaria nell’intervallo fra 2 e 200 GeV/c. Si descrivono dettagliatamente lo spettrometro ed il metodo di analisi. Lo spettro di produzione dedotto dai nostri dati, facendo convenienti ipotesi sulle perdite di quantita di moto, si accorda bene con quello ottenuto da Pineet al. dal loro spettro rilevato al livello del mare, sia per quanto riguarda i valori assoluti che la forma dello spettro. L’uso di gruppi di contatori Geiger su cinque livelli ci permette di analizzare la maggior parte degli eventi multipli.
