On the influence of the spin interaction on the scattering of mesons and electrons by light nuclei

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento (1943-1954)

Summary

As an extension of a preceding paper, the electromagnetic collision of a particle of a spin 1/2 against a light nucleus, represented as a «one particle model», is treated in the first Born approximation. The differential cross sections for coherent as well as for incoherent scattering against Li and C nuclei are calculated for μ-mesons of 200 and 600 MeV and for electrons of 300 MeV; the new results are compared with those obtained, in the preceding paper neglecting the spin of the impinging particle. As a conclusion a short discussion is given of the contribution of the neutrons, present in the nucleus, to the electromagnetic scattering, in which the finite dimensions of the observed nucleons are taken into account.
