Summary
92 cases of mentally defective children were included in a controlled trial on the use of nialamide in doses of 25–50 mg. per day for 9–12 months. The cases on nialamide showed sustained improvement as regards alertness, personality and performance tests. The cases on the placebo showed no change. The improvement on nialamide therapy of the intelligence quotient of these children was not significant. No toxic effects of postural hypotension, hepatic or renal damage were observed.
