Summary
A set of massive vector fields interacting with nonconserved currents is considered and from the positivity it is proved that: 1) The spectral functions are the coefficients of positive definite quadratic forms. 2) The nonvanishing of the equal-time charge-current density commutator is a general feature of the currents coupled to vector fields. 3) Mass-squared and inverse-mass-squared sum rules cannot be simultaneously valid. For the first possibility a simple model with particle mixing is presented. The results 2), 3) lead to the conclusion that a large class of currents,e.g. the usual weak currents contradict the positivity provided that canonical quantization is used. A rough estimation shows that a strong self-interaction of the W-meson could explain the large W mass, as it was recently raised byFeinberg. Finally, various theories, in particular the vector mixing approximation, are examined from the point of view of the result 1) and in each case several mass inequalities are found.
